Well I'm back off to Sagalassos tomorrow, which means staying near Heathrow this evening as its an early flight tomorrow morning. This should be good, as the results from last year were very interesting: the supply and use of CBM ( called architectural ceramics for this project!) following the pattern of what I had seen in Bulgaria, rather than what I have noted in Lebanon, Syria and SE Turkey. There is also good evidence that tile was produced by tenant farmers as rent for the urban population.
The study of material from his site is a logistical challenge and last year I introduced a sampling policy, which I will be checking up on this time round to see if I have got usable data - in the form of quantified phase groups of CBM.
After Turkey its off to Beirut to train up local teams in the cataloguing of the material
Then We may get a holiday
