Pottery Post-Excavation Assessment

The post excavation assessment is defined in section 3.5 of the IfA standard and guidance (i.e. for the collection, documentation, conservation and research of archaeological materials 

Method

The material is scanned by context and grouped into ware classes. Quantification is by count (NOSH), and by minimum number of rims per context (MNR).
Forms are assigned to a functional group, with rim shapes described. Dating data are recorded, and other aspects of the assemblage.
