so back to what I meant to continue with. the finds have been collected from the trowel face, so to speak, are all in bags apropiate to material type and labelled with the site code context number and all the other numbers archaeologists like to give out.
The next stage I tend to call initial processing as there are a number of tasks required. we need to make sure the finds are stable and packaged and packed labelled and marked properly. we also need to know how much of everything there is : we need to compile a basic record.
We need this record so that costings for appropriate and proportionate specialist work can be created and the archive can be planned.
